The Ruse

The Ruse: A Poem

The two live far apart,
but see one another, daily,
accidentally, mostly.
.
Erotic passion grows,
It’s real, and burning,
The ruse of reactions cross great distance.
.
Like dry leaves before the fire of gaze,
Space, time, and gaps wither,
Life barriers are annihilated by the power of emotions.
.
The thoughts, the eyes, and the glory,
Unimaginable consecration,
a ruse, in full operation.
.
Love one another, either real or spurious,
The faces, the sunsets, no more vital,
The distance, by itself, was sufficient.

Haiku: Ghost

Standing next to bed,
is a ghost who is so sad,
I pretend he’s Dad.
.
The ghost of my past,
follows me like my shadow,
I shall embrace it.

Halloween Lights Are On

Cold wind snakes down,
Tree leaves frown,
Halloween lights are on,
Ghosts float all over the town.
.
Far down the street,
Houses smell bloody sweet.
Kids cannot wait
to do their favorite trick-treat.
.
If you dare,
Put on your custom and visit somewhere.
If you care,
Buy enough candies and share.
.
When parents lead their spooky kids here,
Greet them with No fear.
After the knocks at your door die,
Enjoy some bloody pumpkin pie.

I'm A Tree Grounded On The Floor

Growing naked by the end of Fall,
I’m a tree grounded on the floor,
Fancy thoughts spring
with autumn rain on my chin,
I dream of flying
while birds have gone hiding,
I sneeze
when snowflakes descend beneath,
My body shakes
If someone scratch my legs with rakes,
I’m slowly aging
and my confidence is fading,
Just as I’m about to quit,
A girl with blue hair starts to change my fate,
She doesn’t mind that I’m bare,
I cannot talk, but she does not care.
She hops on me,
and starts to do things to make me happy.
I feel handsome
with my blue angel in my arm,
She reads to me day and night,
In her words I travel worldwide,
My eyes begin to glow
as passions in between grow,
I have become a magical tree
Even since she has come to stay.

The shadow in the rain
With hair-rising chills growing heavy like a rocky mountain.

Paddling her own canoe on Lake Benison,
Crown of dark trials, born in water H-A-P-P-Y.

A Magpie Tale (Continuation to Last One)

Magpie Tales   (I decide to put Lin’s story to an end, this is completely fiction and please don’t take it personally or offensively, Thanks for reading!)

By the end of her freshman year, there were at least a dozen guys paying attention to her, because she was the only girl who remained alone yet looked young classical, and outstanding. She made top three grades in her major out of 100 students, and she received top prizes in freshman math contest, freshman creative writing contest.

At the beginning of her second year of college, still, a few guys kept trying their hands on her, some invited her to movies, some invited her to dancing, some came to her dorm room and talking to her, well, she simply did not grow any feelings on any of them. One guy got very upset, he was the son of a Governor, and half a dozen girls spent much time trying to get his attention, he dated 2 or 3, yet, he still paid attention to Lin.

“You fool, open your eyes, recognize who I A-M!”

He spoke one day, standing behind Lin, while both of them stood in line trying to get lunch.

Lin gave him NO responses. No explanations. Well, she knew who he was, but, she was not interested in a guy who took advantage of his father’s achievement to boost his own ego. He did have a handsome look, and he was super tall, too bad Lin preferred to see him as himself only.

“You are quite loving, why, still making up your mind about with whom to date?”

Lin’s roommate spoke to her one day, somewhat puzzled.

“Thanks for the concern, I’m simply a slow reactor, I am too busy studying to think of finding a guy, it is not what’s important to me now.”

Lin offered her true state of mind.

___

On an occasion, Lin saw a flyer about recruiting Chinese Language teachers from a non-profit organization called Sunshine Chinese Language School, candidate must know how to speak fluent Chinese and also fluent English, because students are offspring of Chinese immigrants who were born in the United States and encouraged to learn Chinese basics to be reminded their heritage, some students are Americans who were interested in studying and learning about a foreign culture.

Lin believed that she would fit this job, an opportunity to practice Chinese while helping others. The teaching time was Saturdays at the college classroom building, from 9:30am to 11:30am, of course, she got the job and started teaching in January.

When Lin came to her class, she was startled to see 12 boys and girls, who spoke perfect English, yet sat in the classroom ready to learn basic Chinese, and what truly surprised her was that she had three Americans in, and one of them was Jake.

So, after they broke up one year ago, Jake dated someone else, and he got enough within a few months, and decided to remain single again, because part of him had never let Lin go. He still went to the place where Lin worked to get a glimpse of her without her acknowledgement, of course. After Lin started her teaching Chinese job, Jake decided to enroll, he got in via the school principal and made it to her class.

Lin had been too busy to think of Jake, but when she saw him in her class, her heart jumped. She wrote characters on blackboard, taught them pronunciations,
Added Chinese alphabets to enhance their understanding, their first class focused on some simply words such as Moon, Sun, Water, Soil, Fire, and so on…Lin paid attention to individual students, by walking toward them one by one, asked them to tell her what they have learned, making corrections, and she did not exclude Jake.

After class, Jake waited until everyone was gone.

“How is everything?” He asked.

“All is well.” Lin responded.

“I wish to learn Chinese and hope to get your support when I need it. “

“No problem, ask me questions any time.”

That’s it.

They developed a professional relation and on some occasion, Jake would email or call her, asking her some questions, she would patiently answer his questions.

Soon, summer came, Jake had to leave school for work. His major was international business, thus he easily found a job in New York City, with some skills in Chinese language.

They stopped contacting for about six months.

It was December, Lin finished her last class exam, was in a hurry to pack and leave her dorm, her phone rang. It was Jake.

Lin was asked to come down to the drive way outside her dorm, and what she saw was a huge shock.

Standing next to Jake, was a Chinese man who were about 50 years old, and behind them, parked a Lincoln car.

“We must talk.” Jake said to Lin, “It’s important to you, please come with us, we won’t hurt you, trust me.”

Well, she had been known Jake for a long time, and the man seemed kind looking, she stepped into the car, without thinking much of the consequence.

Silence.

Jake was driving, and he parked the car outside a quiet restaurant, together, they walked in, and a room was reserved for them.

“So, what’s this all about?” Sitting down Lin spoke.

“What do you think who he is?”

Lin stared at him, he looked like a gentleman, but he definitely was unhappy.

The man started sobbing, which made Lin feel more puzzled.

“Twenty years, I have missed you and loved you, prayed for you and wishes to find you…”

Lin began to understand, this man acted as if he was her father. She always hated him whenever thinking of him, simply because he was never there for her.

She did not know what to say.

“We will be back.”

Jake took her hand, together they came to the car, and he drove her all the way to Firefly Lake, where they used to walk around the lake and talk while they were dating two years ago.

The sky was dark, not many stars showing up, because cold winter wind was blowing.

Jake held her hand, together they walked along the shore.

“I happen to be your Dad’s employee, one day, we got drunk, and he began to tell me stories of his life, and he mentioned that he had a daughter, and he remembered your birthday, which is exactly the same year and same day, and also, I find that you look a lot like your Dad when you get upset.”

“So, after several times of discussion and background check, we are certain that he is your father, and he wants to meet you.”

It happened all of a sudden, Lin was in a shock. Part of her felt angry, how dare he, leaving her without caring for so many years, she could not forgive him, NO, she screamed in her head.

“I’m not sure what you are talking about. Why? I never have a father, he was dead.” Lin spoke, her voice shivered. “Please drive me back to my dorm, I feel so cold and sad about everything.”

“I know, I understand, but, according to your father, he had left you and your mom so that he could come to America to become somebody. He borrowed a lot of money to come, and he studied hard to get his Ph .D, and he succeeded becoming a business man, he is never married again.”

“Still, he is a stranger to me.” Lin became angry, she felt like screaming, “I am not buying his stories, no.”

Lin began to walk faster, then ran, she had been studying for her final until 1am, and got very tired, now, she simply wanted to stop thinking, stop living, and she wanted to go home to her mom.

While she was running, thinking aloud, she slipped and fell. Pain, both physical and mental hit her. Tears welled up and she simply laid there, letting the world take charge.

Jake caught up with her, leaned down, grabbed her with his strong arms, he had grown very tall  and strong now, he pulled her close to him, holding her face, placed his lips on her cheeks, eyes, he sipped her tears and when his lips eventually met hers, he felt some warmth, and instantly, the kiss became deep and Lin seemed taking it very well.

“Everything will be okay, I will come to get you as soon as you graduate.”

Jake murmured, kissing her neck.

It was surprising that Lin actually enjoyed the kiss this time. She felt Jake’s male strength and started to calm down. She did need him, and she thought that she was strong enough to ignore her feelings, but that’s a lie. Now, he was right there for her, and had given her what she needed, a father lost and found, and a promise for love.

They simply held each other tight and kissed until both of them were satisfied.

It was hard for Lin to accept her father yet, but at least she did not push him away. When he called her over weekends, she would answer his questions and remain polite. She refused to hug him or take anything from him.

In Summer, when Jake was 23, Lin was 21, they toured New York City and got engaged. Lin’s mother eventually forgave her father, but they remain separated.

After Lin graduated from college, Jake resigned from his job and together, Jake and Lin started their own business and began to build a future of their own, full of promises.

Sky Reading (Short Story Slam Week 13)

I read you, you read me, but, do we have mutual understanding?

I try to understand you as real, reasonable, and considerate being, never meant to shed clouds on your part of the sky, because focusing on disagreement is not what life is about, unless we live under the same roof…

I seek common ground, and I believe that I do it for all, including you, of course, nothing more and nothing less, I do the same to folks who come under my domain and show support. Nobody takes my kindness as evil or desperate act, they shine back and offer me embrace, encouragement, and tolerance. Which is the reason I continue doing what I love to do, and I continue enjoying what I enjoy from those people who are innocent, positive, and easy going.

I have a simple heart, I love life, and I am passionate about writing, sharing, and inspiring among minds that are alike. I have a good life, I have everything I need in reality

I love to write. I write to experiment fantasy, I write to explore my potential, I write to improve my comprehension of creativity and the beauty of it. I write to discover myself, to share and learn from my fellow friends. I write to communicate, I believe we all do for the similar reasons. Living a solid life, writing to fulfill our inner hunger for self-discovery and self-fulfillment,  life can not be better.

Thanks to God, I am grateful for being alive and for living in a country that places citizen’s freedom of speech in the first Amendment.

So, if you don’t take me as normal and positive existence, stay far away from my place. I won’t bother you with any comments or hints of how you shall go about your life, None of my business.

I respect you, so please respect me and leave me alone.

Working too hard to define your target the way you wish him/her to or the way you believe you do, a wrong move. You are no different from me, as a matter of fact, we are doing the same thing, everyone is smart, nobody will get fooled easily, they know how to make choices and identify who is who. I am imperfect, neither do you, I tried hard to stay happy, so do you, I worked hard trying to improve things, so do you.

I had mistakes in the past, I am grateful when you forgive me and offer me another chance, I know that the lack of real communication leads to many misconceptions. Well, I just feel wronged when you take everyone else 100% positively, but take one single soul so differently…you are supposed to be fair and treat everyone the same, it is  sad for you to spend too much time highlighting something in your own imagination, if that is true on me, then that is true on you as well…

I have my own mind, I have values, and I have intelligence. Thus, please respect me for who I am! You want to know more about me, are you sure?

Bigotry won’t buy you any happiness. Stop attacking, stop assuming, and stop imaging your opponent as a victim or a prey under your control. Let the past go, move on.

I am going to enjoy being myself and move on.

The sky is cloudy today, but the sun will shine soon.

The Show Is On

At this October 19th's night,
Join me in the pool of light,
The show is on,
Don’t let strangers go slouch until dawn,
Time to be cleansed by an inviting song,
Time to let screwed moments down,
Spin some tales from cracked backyard,
Revolution never bites on granite,
From wasted ember,
In cheap ashes,
Desperation evaporates,
Words kiss the paper,
Talent shall not breach,
Sooner or later,
I shall hear your speech.

A Magpie Tale (Fiction)

Lin grew up with her single Mom, in her bones, she dislikes men, not only because they are vague,  but also because her own father was never there for her. He left her mom after she was born, a girl.

Mom applied to do her graduate studies in the U. S. when Lin was 14,.

Lin started Junior High in a school close to her mom’s university. Not 100% understanding American culture, she still manages to do well in her classes.

Time flies, Lin and her mom eventually adjusted to western life, what she likes best about America is the fresh air, the open relaxing parks, and the clean restrooms and fantastic shopping malls.

At 10th grade, almost all girls are dating! Too bad she has no interests in boys, there are five Asian guys in her grade, some invited her to their birthday parties, she went with a gift, spent time watching the guys playing online video games, that’s it.

None of them has asked her for a date, which fits her very well.

Lin and her Mom would drive 30 minutes to shop at Chinatown once a month on Saturdays, Lin always retreats herself to the Asian public library there, where she can read books in Chinese and totally forget about the world outside herself!

When she was 16, she started working part time at a super market, driving a second hand car her mom bought for her.

One day, on her way home, Lin’s car got flat tire, she pulled the car to the shoulder of the road, and tried to call for help, only to find out that her cell was dead, out of battery.

The time is 10pm. Her mom is out of town for a business trip.

While she was standing at the sidewalk trying to figure out what to do, a hand grabbed her shoulder.

Startled, she turned around, seeing a guy with blond hair, standing right in front of her!

“Need some help?” his voice was soft.

With no time for hesitation, she simply said “yes”, and told him about her flat tire.

He grabbed his cell, offered to Lin.

She dialed the number of a tow truck company, hands shaking, voice quivering…too tired to stay calm, too needy to reject the help.

While she was waiting, the guy remained there, introducing himself: “Hi, my name is Jake, I am a college freshman here.”

He reached out his right hand for a handshake.

It was rude to not to satisfy him, that’s a friendly touch, and she felt the warmth of his palm.

Lin  insisted walking home after her car was towed away to a car shop.  It was late at night, she did not think she would bother a friend to drive her home. And she could not bother Jake more by accepting a ride in his car.

So she was on her own home, she did not notice that Jake, who actually followed her all the way, from a distance.  He was doing it to protect her, and he did not know the reason,

Later, Lin would think of Jake, somewhat felt guilty for not thanking him properly for his help.  In her culture, one always has to return favors, or at least write a thank you note, but she did not ask for his phone number, and not knowing his dorm address at all.

Jake is a good guy, he grew up in a beautiful family, although he is white, handsome, and well rounded, part of him loathes his own type of people.  Some girls are boy crazy, they pile themselves on men for their own worthiness, which is not totally fitting to Jake, he likes independent women, a girl does not have to be cheap to be happy.

After Lin rejected his offer for a car ride, Jake begins to think of her sometimes, especially after he has found out her home address, Jake would drive passing Lin’s house sometimes, simply trying to take a look from outside and hopefully, they can speak to each other again.

Lin noticed Jake a few times from where she was working,  they always exchange a smile, then he would be gone, and she would finish her job until she was ready to go home.

His smile makes her heart jump.

Eventually, Lin has to admit that she has a crush on Jake.

And her face would turn red when she saw him smiling at her from the crowd.

“Lin, you need to go to hospital to see Jake.”

This day, a co-worker pulled Lin to the back of the store, giving her a piece of paper, with an address on it.

“He had a car accident! He came in the other day and told me about his feelings for you, I was told not to bother you since he was not sure about how you feel about him, especially you two are so different from one another.”

Lin is 17 now, her face turned red, excitement filled her heart, she instantly left to visit Jake. She owns him a favor, hopefully he will be okay.

And it is so sad that Jake’s eyes were closed when she finally came to see him face to face.  Gently, she took his hands, placed them against her cheeks, praying silently for his recovery.

For about two weeks in a row, Lin would come in and hold Jake’s hands, and pray for him…

And during the last few days, Jake pretended to be asleep when Lin was there for him. His heart jumped with joy hearing Lin’s soft breath, showing her good wishes for him.

When Jake is well enough to go back to his classes again, Lin stopped seeing him.

Jake continued stalking on Lin, with deeper passion and more understanding, he did not ask her for a date until she graduated from high school and began to attend college in the same city.

A cook at the duck shop grinned at them when they came to visit Chinatown one day, folks all stopped to look at Jake and Lin, as if Jake is an alien, while they hold hands and tour the place.

Lin never truly liked the smell there, she considers herself wearing the skins of the group but carrying a western heart inside.  She can never totally belong to the birth place where she was born, and she respects values most Americans cherish, she loves people of all groups from all walks, but she is herself and will always live at the edges of the sea.

She took Jake to the library where she had always enjoyed visiting and introduced him many beautiful books, most of the books are published both in Chinese and in English.

Because of her sad childhood experience, Jake and Lin’s relationship only lasted for six months. Because she goes panic when Jake tried to kiss her, and her body would shake like crazy if he wanted to go further.  Which is both normal and abnormal, anyway, Jake understands and is willing to wait patiently until she is totally ready for intimacy, but Lin does not like that.

She begins to feel inferior as time passes, and she feels guilty for not being able to satisfy Jake.  Eventually, she made a decision to end their relationship.

And that’s the end of the magpie tale, which is my humble contribution!

By the shore of untamed sea,
Fake prophets vanish,
Rusty notes are swept away
by forceful morning sun ray,
No more crawling toward scarred fate,
Torment curls up to die,
I cannot wait
to stretch my wings and fly.

Short Story Slam Week 12

Born a white turnip,
I’m advantaged,
Dad’s love,
Mommy’s grace,
Following me like a dove
in a magical place,
Evenly,
I breathe,
Freely,
I dream,
Gently,
I sense his gaze,
Silently,
I scream:
I won’t take everything for granted,
I will listen, learn, and change the world with admirable energy,
Follow me,
We'll fight for equality
and promote the values of family,
                Watch me,
I won’t discriminate anybody.

Not Sure About How To Identify Friends

My candle burns at both ends,
Not sure about how to identify true friends;
Life moves on without a hitch,
WHY care about which is witch;
If I bury all sorrows in a crater,
Won’t things look much better?

Haiku

Impossible love
is thin ice in cold rivers,
easy to evaporate.
.
It's love in first sight,
Impossible to divide
well matched numbers.
.
It's impossible
to jump in the love river
without the duty call.

Glad to Meet You On The Magpie Bridge (A Story Retold)

Does love read the sky?

Can love be calculated by numbers?

Driving  to Best Buy store this evening, seeing red tail lights all over the cars ahead, I noticed car plate numbers, Speed limit signs…

Certainly, human on earth are restricted by calculations.

All of a sudden, one of my favorite childhood stories makes its way to my head…

A long time ago, Seven fairy maiden lives in the fairyland up in the sky, each fairy maiden is unique in her own ways yet, the youngest one, the seventh fairy maiden is of the most mischievous, the most charming, and the most intelligent one.

While she was touring the immortal garden one day, curiosity made her take a look at what’s going on Earth, and she noticed a miserable cowherd, who looked strong and hardworking, yet seemed being bothered by sorrow around him.

With her magical ability, she found out that he is a simple and honest orphan who is making a living on farming, because of high taxes and natural disasters, his farm was ruined and he ended up in debt.

The Seventh Fairy Maiden wants to help him, she descends to earth, and helped the cowherd with everything, including making him a lovely new home, for being his wife.

Happiness does not last long, within a few weeks, Empress of the Fairyland found out the truth and ordered troops to take the Seventh Maiden back to Heaven.  On behalf of her six sisters’ help, The Seventh Maiden and Her Husband are only allowed to meet once a year, on the arc of the magpie bridge, on the seventh day of July.

Above the silky clouds,
Cross the Silver  river,
Comes the weaving maiden.
A moment of rendezvous
sings in the autumn Heaven.
Fantastic joy on earth.
burning passions engage,
Glad to meet you on the magpie bridge.
Eternal love between us two,
A bubble comes true.
364 days a year,
How long time apart
is how much I miss you,
364 sided symmetry,
Each side records my misery,
364 known stars,
Each one lights up my message around Mars,
The number of waiting,
The number of yearning
I count it with understanding,
I measure it with longing.

The Beautiful Couple ( Humor and 55)

She loves him,
He adores her,
They eat together,
They read together!
.
They hold hands
and walk together,
They enjoy
exchanging warm, mushy kisses.
.
When he wants to be hugged,
He calls her name,
Arms outstretched,
to invite her.
.
Who, do you think
is this beautiful couple?
She is his mother,
He is only two!

Pre-existence Makes Sense Only If - - -

I didn't know I wasn't there,
I won't know I'm not,
Across the Pacific Ocean somewhere,
My life reveals its plot.
.
I've let the World War I & II slip,
I missed the sink of Tanta-tic Ship,
I have no clue at all
about Rome's Rise and Fall.
.
My absence of world famous events
offers me No disturbance,
No did I feel deprived
since grace falls at my birth.
.
Pre-existence makes sense
Only if one purifies facts from books,
I'm not married to you,
No need to come to my rescue.

Yeah,
It's so much
easier, better if
we shut our eyes to the sorrow
of ignorance, and
pretend being
well.
